The environment has long been on the receiving end of the abusive and irresponsible actions of mankind. Air and water pollution, global warming, and waste of natural resources are just a few among the damages done to the environment. We must now do something to help the environment before the damage we have done to it become irreparable. The following are the 10 things we can do right now to help the environment:
1. Leaky faucets can waste thousands of gallons of water every year. To avoid wasting this very vital natural resource, fix faucets that leak as soon as you have identified them.
2. Ditch your car and commute to work instead at least twice a week. Commuting can help reduce the emission of carbon monoxide from vehicles, which mean we can breathe cleaner and fresher air. In addition to that, there are a lot of people that are being served by public transportation. Public transportation uses the same amount of fuel compared to private transport.
3. To provide power to devices you frequently use, choose a rechargeable battery over a non-rechargeable one since the latter poses an environmental risk because its chemical composition can damage the environment when it is thrown away.
4. When you go to the supermarket to purchase some items, bring your own canvas or cloth bag to put your groceries into. Do not accept the plastic bags that the supermarket offers to you.
5. Cut down on your energy consumption by investing in a programmable thermostat to regulate the interior temperature of your house.
6. You can reuse some resources by recycling them. Paper, soda cans, and even old clothes can be recycled and reused. Stop wasting the natural resources by buying new ones and therefore increasing the production demands if you can reuse some materials.
7. Smoking is not only dangerous to your health but to the health of others as well. Furthermore, smoking adds to the air pollution that is a huge concern for environmentalist groups nowadays. Do yourself and other people a favor by eliminating or at the very least minimizing your smoking dependency.
8. The amount of carbon dioxide in the environment is so overwhelming that it is pin pointed as the main culprit for global warming. To solve this problem, initiate a tree planting activity to provide fresher and cleaner air.
9. Purchase and use only appliances that are of great quality in order to keep your energy consumption to a minimum.
10. Non-biodegradable wastes such as plastic can take a long time to decompose. Avoid making these non-biodegradable wastes end in landfills by practicing proper waste management.
