Great Green Idea: Green Eating: A Beginner's Guide To Eating Clean and Living Green

A Beginner's Guide To Eating Clean and Living Green

In the olden days, the lifestyle of the people was much simpler than ours now. They ate healthier foods compared to the fast food, junk food, and other food with no or having a lesser nutritional value. Their lifestyle also did not negatively affect the environment the same as ours do. Global warming was just a possible apocalyptic idea in the minds of many while air and water pollution were not as much of a problem as it is now. The evolution of consumerism has lead to an increased consumption of unhealthy food while the advancement of technology - although a positive event in general - carried with it environmental hazards.

For someone who wants to change their lifestyle and begin eating clean and living green, here are some simple steps to take in order to have the healthy lifestyle you have always wanted:

1. Resist the temptation of eating fast food. While fast food meals taste good and are very enticing to eat, they have less nutritional value and are one of the main factors to the alarming problem of obesity. Furthermore, this type of food is often transported by delivery trucks and airplanes, which consume fuel and emit carbon monoxide that contributes to global warming. Make it a habit to eat healthier home cook meals.

2. Junk food is easily accessible and convenient to eat. However, they contain no nutritional value and can even contribute to the worsening state of the environment. Their foil packs often end up in landfills, which are hazardous to the environment. Replace your stock of junk food at home with healthier alternatives.

3. Make sure the food you eat meet the organic standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure that the food that goes down to your stomach have been produced in an environment-friendly manner. Inorganic food are contributing to the damage done to the environment since these are usually produced with the use of chemical pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers with synthetic ingredients, or they have been produced through bioengineering and ionizing radiation. In addition to that, factories that produce inorganic foods contribute to the alarming problem of air and water pollution and are also draining the world's fuel reservoirs. Farmers use renewable resources that are not detrimental to the environment, to produce organic foods. These are proven to be healthier foods compared to their factory-produced counterparts.

Starting to eat healthy and living green can do wonders to your overall health as well as the health of the environment. Remember that it is important to take care of one's body through eco-friendly means. Let us unite to change our lifestyle and the environment for the better.
