Great Green Idea: Green Living: Can You Pass the Green Test?

Can You Pass the Green Test?

Green living is an important part of life. Saving the environment, helping the community and helping the homeless are just a few ways to make the world a better place. Awareness must be followed by action to continue to make a difference in our world. Take the green test below to see how well you are doing:

1. Do you recycle ink cartridges, plastic bags, paper or plastic?
2. Do you receive junk mail without trying to stop it?
3. Do you receive unnecessary phone calls on a regular basis?
4. Do you use energy saving appliances?
5. Do you use water saving aerators on the shower and faucets?
6. Do you use rechargeable batteries?
7. Do you volunteer in your community for a worthy cause?
8. Do you use energy saving lighting in your home or living areas?
9. Do you look for recycled products when making personal purchases?
10. Do you have stacks of magazines and newspapers that you will probably never have time to read?
11. If you have babies or toddlers, do you use cloth diapers?
12. Do you keep your temperature in your home at 68 degrees?
13. Do you turn appliances off when not in use, such as the computer or VCR?
14. Does your home have double or triple paned windows?
15. Is your home sufficiently insulated?
16. Are lights turned off in rooms when they are not needed?
17. Do you replace or clean air filters on a regular basis?
18. Are grass clippings left on your lawn when mowing?
19. Are items reused in your home as much as possible?
20. Do you make efforts to make less trash?

If you answered yes to a large number of questions, then you are well on your way to making a difference in our world. If you answered no to quite a few questions, then take the initiative to take little steps in making a difference. The areas listed are just a few ways to live a greener life.

Junk Mail

When receiving unwanted junk mail on a regular basis, there are several ways to decrease mailings received. Add your name to the "no mail list" online or if you have time available, you can call the 1-800 numbers listed in the mailings to personally ask for removal from mailing lists.

Unwanted Phone Calls

To stop unwanted phone calls, you can be added to the "no call list." This can be easily taken care of in a matter of minutes on the internet. Once your name has been added to the no call list and you receive an unwanted call from a solicitor, politely tell them that you are on the no call list, and please do not call back.
