Variety Stores

Variety stores offer several advantages to shoppers. Prices are usually low to moderate as well as they are generally open longer hours. Shoppers can also find fad items although variety can be limited at times. Returning items is usually difficult.

Discount Stores

Discount stores generally have ongoing sales on merchandise and are open to the public for longer hours. Parking is usually not an issue and items are low in price for consumers. Sometimes, items are poorly constructed and fabric quality poor. This type of store also will carry trendy items.

Department Stores

Large department stores carry greater variety of clothing and merchandise. Locations are convenient to the community as well as reasonable pricing. Department stores advertise sales on a regular basis. Personal service may be limited depending on the chain and merchandise may be slightly worn in some cases.

Boutiques

Boutiques carry hard to find items for the public and specialize in various items. Personalized service and a relaxing atmosphere are the norm for this type of store. Prices are usually higher and size of clothing may be limited for some.

Outlet stores usually carry items of fashion at lower prices for the consumers. Merchandise may have slight imperfections and sizing of clothing may not be standard. Store hours are generally limited but savings can add up for purchasers.

Chain Stores

Chain stores usually carry many sizes and styles of clothing. Cost for items are moderate and usually it is easy to return items if necessary. Chain stores usually have their own charge accounts. Merchandise from this type of store may also have flaws or imperfections and sizing may not be standard.

Specialty Stores

Specialty stores give personalized service to the customer while providing a variety of specialized merchandise. Alteration services for the community are the norm. Costs are typically higher and stores hours may be more limited.

Thrift Shops

Thrift shops usually carry gently used clothing items and merchandise. Items may need to be washed or slightly repaired for further use. Prices are usually very low but clothing found could be of nice quality. Usually, there are not dressing rooms to try on clothing for customers.
