The constant barrage of media attention regarding the planet leads some to question whether it is important to keep environmental concerns in the news media. But this attention actually provides a continued awareness of the issues at hand. It also leads to the invention of more creative ways to find solutions to the problems this planet faces. These solutions come in the form of green technology, as well as innovative earth friendly products and services.

Innovative Television Programming

Beginning in the fall of 2010, entrepreneur and inventor Dean Kamen will host a new television program which will feature earth-friendly innovations, inventions and ideas. The half hour episodes will follow Dean Kamen, along with his correspondent, around the globe while he investigates the latest technologies and green gadgets that are being used to help the environment and interviews the people that create them. His goal is to address the seriousness of these issues in a manner that appeals to both scientists and individuals who are concerned with earth's challenges. The initial eight episodes will cover inventions that include manufacturing plants that produce energy from human waste and flying automobiles that save on energy. The program is scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel's Planet Green network in the third week of October.

California Going Green

A recent report revealed that the state of California held the largest number of green technology patent applications in the country from 2007 and 2009. In addition to a rise in the number of green manufacturing jobs, the state produced inventors who applied for over 450 patent applications during this time period. The study that that revealed the rise in applications for earth-friendly innovations and inventions also observed that the San Francisco Bay and greater Los Angeles areas provided around 10,000 green employment opportunities to each of these areas during those years. They further concluded that growth is expected to continue.

Personal Care for Men

An announcement Beijing business conference focusing on personal health and grooming products for men is scheduled in early 2011 recently been reported in the news. The conference will cover earth friendly innovations in the area of manufacturing men's cosmetics. Since men have been taking greater care in their health and appearance, this industry is targeting them as consumers. The emphasis will be on environmentally friendly formulas for men's personal products that have been developed through recent green technology.

Green Gadget Giveaway

Recent news in the UK reports that residents in the Lancashire County area are being offered free tools that can save money on their utility bills and reduce energy at the same time. Homeowners can expect to save Â£100 on their energy bill by using these products. One fifth of the carbon footprint of the average household comes from heating the water. To reduce this usage, one green gadget, an energy saving plug, fits on the shower and reduces the water usage by up to 70%. The second gadget is an electrical plug which saves energy by completely turning off unused electronics and appliances when they are in standby mode.
