The constant barrage of media attention regarding the planet leads some to question whether it is important to keep environmental concerns in the news media. Beginning in the fall of 2010, entrepreneur and inventor Dean Kamen will host a new television program which will feature earth-friendly innovations, inventions and ideas. The half hour episodes will follow Dean Kamen, along with his correspondent, around the globe while he investigates the latest technologies and green gadgets that are being used to help the environment and interviews the people that create them. His goal is to address the seriousness of these issues in a manner that appeals to both scientists and individuals who are concerned with earth's challenges. The initial eight episodes will cover inventions that include manufacturing plants that produce energy from human waste and flying automobiles that save on energy. The program is scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel's Planet Green network in the third week of October.
California Going GreenA recent report revealed that the state of California held the largest number of green technology patent applications in the country from 2007 and 2009. In addition to a rise in the number of green manufacturing jobs, the state produced inventors who applied for over 450 patent applications during this time period. The study that that revealed the rise in applications for earth-friendly innovations and inventions also observed that the San Francisco Bay and greater Los Angeles areas provided around 10,000 green employment opportunities to each of these areas during those years. They further concluded that growth is expected to continue.
