Great Green Idea: Green Living: Eco Friendly Living Offers Healthier Alternative

Eco Friendly Living Offers Healthier Alternative

It is being learned that living a more eco friendly life can also help reduce many health risks, resulting in a healthier environment. Some of the methods may be obvious and some not quite so obvious, but by reducing some of the practices and removing some of the habits can result in a more eco friendly life that also offers a healthier space for you and your family.

There are several dangers present in neatly every home such as mold and dust mites. You do not have to go through your home with a magnifying glass to hunt them out; rather you can take steps to insure against them coming to live in your home. By reducing the humidity in the house, you will reduce the attraction of mold. Areas around sinks and bath tubs can be a common place for mold to grow and by ensuring there are no leaks that leave water on or around the pipes can help eliminate this health risk. Dust mites live in some of the strangest places including stuffed animals and in pets. By allowing those to tumble in a hot dryer can help kill them off, keeping them out of the home.

Every municipal water supply is required to provide an annual report on what is in the water. Obtain a copy of this report to determine if a whole-house filtering system will help provide a healthier source of water. While it may be within limits established by the Environmental Protection Agency, it may be above the limits for providing a healthy water supply.

To save money as well as natural resources, buy only what you need. Stocking up on many items may seem like a good way to save money, as buying in bulk is often accompanied by lower prices. However, if you end up throwing away unused items you have not only wasted your money, but you have wasted the resources needed to produce the extra items. Additionally, the extra will likely end up in a landfill.

As a matter of convenience, many people opt to buy disposal products such as razors. This results in more items in the landfill and more resources being used to create more. Using reusable products can not only save money in the long run, it will also save natural resources.

Another method to save money and resources is to buy used whenever possible. While some items can not be purchased used, many can and this not only saves money, it also reduces the materials used to make new ones. This practice also eliminates the packaging for that item. Used furniture is an excellent example of saving natural resources as it eliminates the cutting of trees to make new items.

You can follow the three 'R's" for better eco living: reduce, reuse and recycle to help save natural resources and save money at the same time. There is a conception that buying only organic items or eco friendly merchandise is more expensive than mass produced items of questionable content. Initial expense may be slightly higher but if it can save you money in the long run and provide a healthier living environment, it is considered an investment rather than an expense.
