We all live in the same planet. We share this planet with the people we love. And when we die, this same planet will be inherited by our children, our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren. We must therefore take care of it so that future generations can enjoy everything that this beautiful planet has to offer. The Earth, however, is presently confronting environmental problems that have just recently become a central issue for many activists and governments. To address these problems, we should become more aware of how the products we use may aggravate the environmental crisis that we are confronting. We must stop buying and consuming these items if we want to have a greener world.
For some people, it may come as a difficult task to realize how their own actions can actually contribute to either solving the problem or making it worse. Many of us have become so caught up with our busy lives that it's become difficult for us to see the impact of our actions beyond the four walls of our households or our offices. But the truth is, the small choices that we make as we go about our busy lives do make a difference to the environment. Each ton of paper that you use, for instance, cost the cutting of roughly 8 to 20 trees, depending on the kind of paper you're using. If you totaled the amount of paper you consume in your whole lifetime, you could find yourself directly responsible for the denudation of a minor forest. Imagine now what would happen to all our forests if none of the paper we've used were to be recycled.
Yet people often misunderstand the problem. Some think that eco-friendly living is all about saving animals and trees. But its something much deeper than that. It's actually about saving yourself and the lives of those you love. The damage that has been caused to our planet is directly affecting our own lives. The thinning of the ozone layer has increased the chances of you or your loved ones to suffer from skin disease due to sun exposure. The denudations of our forests have caused millions to seek refuge from flash floods. Others, not as lucky, have died from these floods.
If we continue to turn our backs to eco-friendly living, we're not just going to end up with a lot of carbon in the atmosphere. That's not where or how it ends. All that carbon will in turn aggravate global warming, which will then lead to extreme weather events such as those that we've already begun to witness around the globe. These extreme weather events will lead to only one conclusion - the loss of human lives.
Eco-friendly living, therefore, is all about caring for everything and everyone that you've ever loved. It's about doing everything that you can to keep the world from crumbling around us. When you commit to an eco-friendly life, the impact of that decision will not only be felt in your life but also in the lives of those people who will be encouraged by your own commitment to the environment. You'll be surprised at the number of people from within your family and your circle of friends who will very soon follow your lead. The collective efforts of your family and friends to help the environment will certainly not be inconsequential in the greater scheme of things.
