The travel industry is now reporting that travelers are leaving the beach to make their eco holidays experience even richer. This is because Cancun offers wonderful eco friendly attractions in the city as well as long history. Eco friendly travelers are now leaving the beach to take advantage of this gateway to the Mayan world and visit attractions and locations to create lifetime holiday vacation memories.

Green Travel Giveaway

In time for the holiday travel season, Sustainable Travel International (STI) has launched an online sweepstakes that provides a chance to win green travel prizes. The sweepstakes runs through November 30, 2011 and offers new prizes every two months. This year, eco holidays vacation prizes include a 7 night cruise through the Galapogos Islands in Ecuador and a hiking trek in Peru. The prizes are donated by worldwide travel agencies that offer eco tours. A $10.00 donation to STI is required to enter. The proceeds from the donations support STI, a non profit organization, in their mission to promote eco travel worldwide.

A newly opened luxury hotel in the historic Old Town area of Key West, Florida has begun offering seasonal holiday rates for the upcoming season. The hotel is a participant in several green initiatives such as water and energy conservation. The hotel also makes use of eco friendly products such as insulation and other building materials.

Holiday Skiing Vacations

Skiers will be able to head for the slopes this holiday season by means of an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. A range of travel packages that include 3,500 new low carbon rail journeys is now made available for eco friendly holiday travelers. Fares for the journeys are fixed when booked in advance. According to the participating tour operators, the travel by rail takes little more time than flying but the environmental benefits are enormous.
