Energy Saving: Center Point of Green Living
When it comes to utility bills like electricity, saving as much money as possible is a concern that has touched us all at one point or another.
In order to truly go green, energy must be conserved. Since the most widely used type of energy happens to be electricity that means that certain steps will need to be made in order to keep that energy at the levels we need without shorting out our planet's resources or our wallets. Luckily, we now live in an age of advanced technology. Which means that currently, the possibility of our generation being known as an alternative electricity generation in the near future is high. With so many advancements, there's very little doubt that if we haven't already entered into an alternative electricity generation, then it's only a matter of time before we do.
What either the current, or future, alternative electricity generation has to look forward to is a cause for envy. Not only will electricity saving ideas reach new heights, but the current electricity saving techniques that have already been implemented will then be refined and perfected to the point where they can become major sources of energy, rather than the background players that they are now. Of these current alternative sources of power, solar energy and wind energy seem to be the most effective. Solar power, while more consistent than wind power as well as more widespread, isn't favored because of certain issues.
Not only do people have to take into account that the sun doesn't shine for equal lengths or at equal strengths all over the globe (some areas are even without the sun for a good part of the year), there's also a problem with there being no sun during storms, cloudy days, or at night. Then there's the price of solar cells and panels to consider, as well as how to get the use of them to become a widespread phenomenon rather than an eccentricity for every third or fourth person in the population.
As for wind generated power, there's the concern that the wind can't blow constantly, and when it does, it doesn't necessarily have to blow with enough gusto to power a home, let alone a town or city. That means more turbines (which cost money) clustered together in very specific areas. While it may seem like solar and wind generated electricity may not be the best way to go, it's important to remember that for every downside, these energy sources have another handful of benefits to help back them up. The most important of these being that they are the most inexpensive, renewable, and 'green' of all the other choices that are currently at our disposal.
