Great Green Idea: Green Living: Experience a Warm Green Winter

Experience a Warm Green Winter

Every year we find winter to be cold and uninviting. Make this a year to remember. Embrace the beauty of the winter and challenge yourself to create a wonderful green winter lifestyle. Do not see winter as dull. Use green in your life to cheer you and your family up.

There are many environmental friendly contributions that you can do in winter. Normally the wind blows and sever storms occur but use this to your advantage. Invest in the wind as a power source. Plant a wind turbine in the back of your garden and supply your own electricity. Not only will you save cost on electricity you will also safeguard your family from power outages that occur frequently in winter time by supplying your own electricity. Unplug appliances that you do not use. This will also reduce the electricity usage.

Start to plant seedlings for your spring garden and nourish your winter plants. Plan ahead and plant the winter vegetables late spring. You will find the vegetables more tasty and sweet than the summer vegetables. Try not to eat too much meat. Winter is a great time to introduce vegetables to kids because you can make delicious warm soup. Stay with organic health foods. They provide substantial Vitamin C that is important to prevent flu and colds. Drink organic coffee and tea.

Avoid heaters. Use blankets instead. Time the family members when they bath or shower to limit water and electricity usage. Make sure your windows are sealed by testing it before the winter season starts. If you experience an air leak the heat in the house will reduce. You can buy a weather kit to cover the windows but the only problem is that the kits contain plastic. A better option is to hang up thick curtains. Bedtime roll yourself into a warm blanket and climb into bed you will be amazed how warm and toasty it is under the covers.

Wear natural fibers and materials. Steer away from synthetic clothes. Hemp and wool are good material choices to opt for when choosing a garment. If you use makeup invest in eco friendly makeup. Natural winter fibre clothes are not always easy to find. Logon to the Internet, order and buy online. Layer your clothes to keep warm.

Reduce your travelling by starting a lift club or using public transport. Do not travel if it is not necessary. Let's be honest who wants to go out in the cold freezing air. Stay at home and embrace the warmth. Reduce the carbon footprint.

Living a green winter lifestyle is not always easy but as soon as you get used to the idea you will never look back. Take it slowly. You do not need to change everything overnight. Enjoy and embrace the beauty of winter.
