Big businesses are the usual culprits for heavy pollution in our society. Large factories are among the top offenders as these emit dirty smoke that pollutes the air. These also have many other wastes associated with their manufacturing function. In addition to these, there are also factories that dispose of their wastes into the sea, which can destroy marine life as well as affect the marine ecosystem on a large scale. One can see that big businesses are major offenders in polluting the environment and this has resulted in the overlooking of the contribution to environmental pollution by many people with their trash and wastes they dispose of from their residences.
While considered to be small offenders if taken individually, households can become major offenders to polluting the environment if you take their sheer number in general. There are millions of households throughout the world and most - if not all - of these households do not practice proper waste segregation and disposal. These can contribute to increasing environmental risk factors that pollute the world we live in.
For example an average family, which needs to dispose of their trash on a daily basis. The usual trash that this family needs to throw away may consists of any of the following: leftovers and spoiled food, old newspaper, junk food foil packs, soda cans, plastic bottles, cigarette butts and empty packs, and plastic bags just to name a few. Without a proper waste management system, these wastes end up being accumulated and thrown as one pile of garbage. Now imagine the adverse effect this has on the environment. Plastic takes years to decompose and may end up as a huge pile of trash throughout the years, which can result to a dirty environment. Recyclable wastes that are improperly dispose of can result in a failure of taking advantage of their being recyclable which can maximize the use of these resources. All of these can contribute to the polluted environment that we live in. Living in a dirty environment means risking your health since viruses and bacteria thrive and breed in this kind of environment, which can lead to people contracting various diseases and illnesses.
It is important for everyone to take part in helping get rid of pollution. All of us need to do our part in order to make sure we live in a cleaner environment. It is not enough to let the big businesses do all the cleaning because it is only through the unity and combined efforts of the big and small stakeholders to practice proper waste management that we can keep the environment as clean and pollution-free as possible.
