Throughout the years, mankind has played a major role in contributing - both directly and indirectly - to the environmental hazards that make the planet we live in suffer for our actions. Thousands of factories and industrial plants around the world are polluting the air and the wastes they produce only make matters worse. Cars and other transportation also contribute to air pollution and this problem gets worse every year -as more of them are being used by man for his convenience. In addition to these, illegal logging and deforestation as well as irresponsible waste management add up to the factors that destroy our mother earth.
All the actions we do that destroy the environment are starting to take its toll on our planet. Global warming has been an increasing concern among the public with the various diseases associated with pollution as well as flashfloods and landslides that are attributed to illegal logging and deforestation are indicating that we must unite and do something to keep our planet healthy.
One-way to give back to mother earth and help her stay in shape is to practice proper waste management, which includes proper waste segregation and waste disposal. Non-biodegradable wastes take a very long time to decompose and throughout the years, these can accumulate and pollute the environment. This is the reason why it is important to segregate our wastes and dispose of them properly in order to avoid worsening the problem of pollution in all parts of the globe. By segregating our wastes we can also recycle some materials and avoid wasting them. The earth's natural resources are not unlimited and recycling can help us make the most out of the things we get out of our planet's natural resources.
Practicing energy-saving methods are also very helpful. Fossil fuel is a limited supply and the Earth is running out of it. Look for energy-saving alternatives like changing your conventional light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). Although these are three to five times more expensive than conventional light bulbs, they consume lesser amount of energy.
Engaging in eco-friendly activities such as tree planting can also benefit the earth and help restore its health. You can invite your friends and have fun planting trees with them. Trees provide fresher and cleaner air that can help the earth have a cleaner environment.
We only have one earth and the moment our planet is damaged beyond repair, there will be nothing left for us to do except wallow in regret. Do your part to give back to mother earth before it is too late.
