Great Green Idea: Green Cars: Green Cars: Technological Marvels or Nightmares?

Green Cars: Technological Marvels or Nightmares?

Environmental technology has become a necessity in the past few decades, as we start to become aware of the effect that our pollution is having on the environment. We need to start taking care of our planet in a way that is still going to allow us to live our normal lifestyles. This is where eco-friendly cars have come into play. These particular cars are designed in a manner which is supposed to help you travel from one place to another while using less non-renewable resources than ever before. The question comes into play, however, on whether these green cars are actually doing any good.

The simple fact is that most eco-friendly cars are hybrids, which are vehicles which are still using gasoline. This particular type of car will run on a combination of gasoline fuel and electric energy, making it a veritable "hybrid" of energy sources. The methods used in a hybrid car will raise the typical mileage of the vehicle to around 45 miles per gallon, about double that of a traditional mid-sized car. This can be seen as a great advancement, one which is helping to curb the amount of energy which is being used by the public.

Green cars have come much farther than simple hybrid technology, however. This is a fact which cannot be ignored. Electric cars have been perfected to the level where they are fully capable of performing with a 250 mile driving capability. This is only recently, there may already be electric cars which can already go further. These eco-friendly cars are at the height of environmental technology, as they are vehicles which are going to use already-established forms of electricity and will not require the use of gasoline, which ultimately causes a great deal of pollution as well.

Therefore, this simple knowledge shows that hybrid cars are a great step in environmental technology, but should be considered simply that… a step. If the public becomes too content with hybrid technology, there will still be this huge dependence on oil for a fuel source and this will not help advance environmental technology any further. This is why eco-friendly cars and their technology need to be explored even further. Once you look at everything which is actually possible with eco-friendly cars, you are going to see the hybrids simply will not be enough.

After you explore the knowledge that electric cars are possible and that they will soon be available in a greater range, hybrid cars become only a stopping point along the path of environmental technology. Soon there will be vehicles that will not have a gasoline dependence at all. These will be the cars which can help us to make a better impact on the environment and those vehicles can truly be considered eco-friendly cars. Until this point, however, green cars simply have hybrids as the most accessible choice. While this is still an improvement over what has gone before, it is not the best possible technology which can be had and steps should be taken to ensure that environmental technology keeps on growing.
