The next generation of vehicles is nearly available, green cars within the next five years are poised to flip the auto industry upside down. In case you didn't know there is a race among the automobile industries. The race is to see who can be the first to produce long range, energy efficient and affordable cars. Green autos come in many different shapes and sizes, electric, hybrid, hydrogen, and three wheeled to name a few.
Electric vehicles have seen an increase in production and advancement due to some major technology boosting in battery, and energy storage. These breakthroughs have for the first time shown signs of a viable electric car market. Over the next few years cars such as the Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf and Tesla should have an impact on production of cars.
While electric cars are one growing segment of the industry, hybrid cars having been advancing at record pace. Cars that can go 45 mpg are becoming a lot more regular in the marketplace. Many of these vehicles can be purchased at affordable prices, which make them more enticing to consumers.
Three wheeled cars and hydrogen vehicles have had the slowest growth. While both these have shown potential, the marketplace has not really responded. While you may be able to get a lot more mpg for a 3 wheeler, the size and look of them are a major detractor. Hydrogen fuel cells have had advancements but by the time we see a significant breakthrough, it may be too late.
Green Cars should be taking over the marketplace by 2020. We will be highlighting different advancements in each field and keep track of what company and what type of car is ahead in the race.
