Green celebrities have emerged lately, and eco causes vary from conservation to living carbon neutral. The urge to live green is really that new. The idea has been around for generations. In the 60's communal living encouraged people to embrace mother earth. However the go green movement has soared with green celebs talking on the red carpets about green living.

Ed Begley Jr. is one of the best well known green celebrities. He has his own show "Living with Ed" that details his ecofriendly life. He owns electric powered Toyota Rav4 and a hybrid Prius; he has been known to show up on his bicycle. Unlike many so called green celebs Ed's two bedroom home has solar panels, recycles, composts, and collects rainwater; he is a member of several eco causes including Solar Electric Light Fund which promotes solar rural electricity.
Darryl Hannah is on a short list of radical green celebs. Her home is totally off the grid in the Rocky Mountains and is totally solar powered. She has implemented a gray water system which collects rain water perhaps to water her mossy stone sofa. One of her biggest eco causes is LA's South Central Urban Garden; she even was arrested in 2006 after spending 23 days in walnut tree which later unfortunately was torn down.
Leonardo Dicaprio is a green celebrity who has founded his own ecofriendly foundation, Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which aids many eco causes from saving tigers and other wildlife to promoting more sustainable living for the planet. A quirky fact about Leo: he flies commercial not private unlike many other green celebrities.
Of course no one can talk about the green movement and not mention Al Gore. The Climate Project was started by Gore to educate the public on global warming and how to change things before it is too late. Some have likened Gore to George Washington. Washington was a founding father of America, and many believe Gore is a founding father of the new eco causes movement. Although some have criticized him for not living in a home like other green celebs, Al Gore is still an important part of the green living craze.
Ed Norton is a dynamic actor; and is a giant in his eco causes. He believes in green living and shows his support by having solar panels on his New York apartment. Rather than take a cab or drive in NYC, which everyone knows is hard to do green or otherwise, Norton takes the subway. Not many celebrities would brave that danger. He also ran a marathon last year to raise awareness for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Fund in Kenya. This cause promotes the conservation of the tribal culture of the people and save the wildlife indigenous to that region.
Green celebrities have paved the ecofriendly road, and their eco causes help better the earth and communities. They encourage everyone to do their part to help conserve, recycle, renew, and reuse. Find a project nearby, grab a buddy, and become green celebs in neighborhoods close to home.
