Great Green Idea: Green Living: How Green is Your Budget Planning?

How Green is Your Budget Planning?

Everyone is talking about green living tips for daily living, but have you thought about how green is your budget planning? If you are living well, you may or may not give it a second thought. I challenge you to think of ways to make your budget greener.

Household Savings

Household savings can add up over time by changing living habits. Using eco-friendly products such as energy efficient light bulbs and washing clothes in cold water save money. Individuals can take shorter showers to conserve water as well as lower household thermostats on a regular basis to 68 degrees.

Grocery Savings

Saving money on groceries over time can make a huge difference. Fruits and vegetable bought in season will reduce food expense as well as using green living grocery bags. Use fresh foods without waste or prepare them for future use by freezing or dehydrating.

Appliance Savings

When appliances need to be replaced, buying energy saving brands will save money and the environment as well. Look for rebates that can be used as well for additional savings. Small appliances that are not in use can be unplugged to save on the cost of electricity.

Bottled Water

Many Americans buy cases of bottled water on a regular basis to ensure good high quality drinking water. How many of those bottles will end up in a land fill? A better solution would be to refill one reusable bottle of water on a regular basis.

Cut Back on Fast Food Restaurants

Eating out was once a pleasure taken on an occasional basis. Many families now eat out on a daily basis for at least one meal a day or at least a few times per week. It is much greener to prepare fresh foods at home and much healthier. The money spent on this one area alone adds up very quickly especially with a family.

Buying Used

The Jones family is working to keep up with the Wilsons to stay ahead of the competition. These two families are into buying only the best and buying new. Are they really getting ahead? Buying used products is not a bad thing. If making a wise choice selecting a used product, it can be a very good thing making more money available to save over time. Used products may be just as good, if not better, than some new products of the same item.

Green budgets take the environment into consideration by using wise buying decisions as well as looking for creative ways to make a difference. Saving money in little ways can help the earth over time. Budgeting is an important part of life, so why not make it a green budget?
