Great Green Idea: Green Living: How to Protect our Environment by Living Green

How to Protect our Environment by Living Green

For the past 50 years, humankind has exploited the earth, ravaged its rich resources, and polluted our lands with an unbelievable amount of non-biodegradable waste. We have filled our plains and valleys with harmful materials and chemicals that take centuries to decompose. Even our rivers and natural waterways have been clogged with all this garbage. The consequences of these irresponsible acts are sure to be borne by future generations who will have to deal with the problems that they have inherited from us. It is therefore important for us to realize that we have to start using our resources in a more responsible way, and take steps towards reducing our energy waste so as to also minimize the solid and gas residues left behind by processes related to power generation. Unless we change our ways, the plant is certain to suffer and decay further in the coming centuries.

It is thus important to realize that with every minute by which we refuse to change, the earth shall continue to suffer from the excessive exploitation of our natural resources and the pollution caused by man-made factors. Living green, and the decision that accompanies it, will affect every aspect of our lives. It will have an impact not only on our own health or our immediate environment, but also the future of the human race.

If green living is adopted by the majority of our population, this will also have a radical impact on the way that our economies are built such that the both the demand and supply of environmentally-destructive products such as fossil fuels and non-biodegradable bags will decrease tremendously. This is why many companies are now making the effort to incorporate policies and strategies that are consistent with green living.

If you want to protect the environment, there are a number of things you can do as an ordinary citizen. Here are some examples:

* Reduce the amount of energy you consume.

* Reduce the amount of paper you use for printing.

* Recycle products such as plastic bags, cans, aluminum, etc.

* Be responsible in disposing your garbage.

* As much as possible, walk or ride a bike instead of depending on fuel-based vehicles for your transportation.

* Do not buy illegal products that are banned by environmental laws.

* Support organic farming by patronizing organic food.

* Conserve water.

* Volunteer for the activities of local environmental groups.

* Invest in energy-efficient appliances.

These are only some examples of the things that you can start doing today. There are many other things which you can also undertake in the medium-term or long-term period. You can try to empower yourself further by learning more about the ecology and biodiversity. You may also organize tree-planting activities in order to address the depletion of forests and trees in the planet.

To conclude, there is much to be done within your own community and surroundings. Help promote green living by raising the awareness of your own friends and family members. Spread the word about measures that can and need to be taken for the protection of our environment.
