Great Green Idea: Green Living: How to Start a Book Benevolence in your Neighborhood

How to Start a Book Benevolence in your Neighborhood

Starting a book benevolence in your neighborhood is a great green living project. A book benevolence can be created for a variety of reasons including homeschooling, focus clubs, tutoring groups as well as local churches.

Local churches will usually donate funding to help start a book benevolence in need. Home school support groups may also have the ability to provide funding to start one as well. If funding is not available, it is still possible to start one to the benefit of others.

Local Book Donations

Local book donations are another source of materials to start the benevolence. Flyers can be placed locally to ask for donations as well as spreading the word personally to others. An advertisement may also be placed in local newspapers. Depending on the nature of the benevolence, thrift and used book stores can provide materials as well.

Public Libraries

Public libraries will often times have book fairs to sell extra books to raise additional funds for their needs. Having a contact person can provide rewards for the benevolence needs. Books may also be donated from the library as well as other sources for a worthy cause.

Family Donations

Family donations are a rich source of donations to start a benevolence, especially when it comes to home school families. Several families can make a huge impact in providing materials for a valuable cause. Family members may also know of other available resources willing to lend a helping hand.

Locations

A benevolence location will be needed for the books to be stored. Volunteers can be used at set times for others to come and search for needed items. Locations can include church buildings, member's homes or businesses (with permission of use on a regular basis).

Guidelines

Most book benevolences' allow members to borrow materials on good faith according to guidelines set by the membership. If materials are limited, a check out system may be used where materials must be returned by a specific time. Some book benevolences loan materials on good faith alone.

Online Book Swaps

Online book swaps are an alternative to starting a book benevolence. Local Yahoo groups are available to give unneeded items or to receive needed items at no charge. Other websites are also available to mail and receive books desired for shipping costs only.

Creating and maintaining a book benevolence is a wonderful way to use materials wisely and help make the world a greener planet. The benevolence can be small or large depending on needs of the community as well as the amount of time volunteers can devote to the cause.

Book benevolences are another way to save the planet by using recycled books and related materials for a variety of reasons. Recycling and reusing materials for benevolence is an eco-friendly solution for community needs.
