Living in such a fast paced world, it is often times hard to find the time to create eco-friendly meals in the kitchen. Lives are busy with many schedules while fast food is the norm for many families. Eating at home is much healthier for the family unit, saving money as well. One method that is helpful in this area is using multi-baking techniques. Some examples follow.
Multiple DishesMany times, multiple dishes can be prepared and baked at the same time. This allows use of the oven one time for several dishes. A meat dish can be placed in the oven with a potato dish, cooking at the same time. This also cuts down on the time needed to cook two separate dishes. Oven temperature may need to be adjusted slightly if temperatures need for each dish is different.
Similar DishesMany times, when cooking homemade banana nut bread, I will prepare several loaves at once. The loaves will be placed in the oven to bake at the same time. Pan sizes should be similar so the cooking process is consistent with each loaf. When removed from the oven, one will be enjoyed the same evening, while the others will be wrapped and used over the next few days.
Stackable ProductsAlthough, microwaving products may not be as healthy as oven cooking, it does save time. Products are available that allow cooking multiple food items at the same time. An example would include a stackable cooker holding the following items in each layer: vegetables on bottom, meat item in middle, and a fruit item in the top stackable tray. Use of this type of product can also save time in the kitchen.
Super CookingPreparing homemade spaghetti sauce is very easy to do and the sauce can be used in various dishes. The sauce can be prepared in a very large pot during one setting in the kitchen. The taste of the homemade sauce cannot even compare to canned or jarred spaghetti sauce from the store. Extra sauce can also be frozen for future use in other dishes such as lasagna, rigatoni, pizza and many others.
Multi-Dish CookingMany times a time saver in the kitchen involves cooking items in the oven, while preparing a few food items on the stovetop as well. When schedules are very busy in the family, preparation for a future meal (while cooking the current one) will help the family unit. Cooking and clean up time is done one time for several meals.
Multi-baking techniques can be used to save the family time and money. Healthier eating as well as increased family time are wonderful benefits produced. Why not give it a try?
