Great Green Idea: Green Gardening: Organic Gardening for Beginners

Organic Gardening for Beginners

Non-organic foods are produced by factories using synthetic ingredients as well through methods that damage the environment. These factories emit a huge amount of carbon monoxide that pollutes the air we breathe as well as escalate the problem of global warming. These factories also use up fossil fuel rather than renewable energy sources. For these reasons, it is important for those who produce food to adapt a more eco-friendly stance. Farmers are encourage to practice organic gardening that can help alleviate the problem of pollution and global warming as well as cut down on the consumption of non-renewable energy sources.

Below are some simple organic gardening tips for beginners that can help them start producing healthier foods with no significant negative environmental effects:

1. Use natural fertilizers like dried animal manure and compost, which is a decomposed plant matter that is recycled as fertilizer, instead of synthetically-made fertilizers which are made at factories that spew carbon monoxide which contributes to air pollution and global warming. Naturally fertilizing the soil can help cut down on the use of non-renewable energy sources as well as take advantage of available natural resources by using them productively.

2. Do not use pesticides with synthetic ingredients as these are produce through non-renewable energy means and as mentioned above, their manufacturers play a major role in making the problem of pollution and global warming worse than it already is. Choose alternatives that do not do damage to the environment since the heavy use of pesticides can contaminate groundwater.

3. Practice water conservation gardening methods. Water the roots of your plants instead of the leaves since the roots are responsible for absorbing the water and its nutrients to nourish the plant. Furthermore, if you water the leaves of your plants especially on sunny days, the water will just evaporate because of the heat instead of being absorbed by the plant. Efficient use of your water resources can help in the production of organic vegetables and fruits since there is no need for the application of artificial and synthetic fertilizers to the plants.

Organic gardening can help produce healthier foods that we can eat to nourish our bodies. Furthermore, it does not damage the environment as it does not use too much non-renewable energy sources like fossil fuel. Organic gardening also adds the benefit of the productive use of natural resources to help nourish your plants.
