Great Green Idea: Green Eating: Organic Versus Non Organic Foods: Which is Really Better?

Organic Versus Non Organic Foods: Which is Really Better?

Organic foods are in the headlines on a regular basis, but are they really better than non organic foods? Food is food, right? This is not necessarily true. Organic food is grown without synthetically based chemical pesticides or fertilizers as compared to non-organic foods grown naturally.

Our bodies are daily bombarded with hazards that can cause cancer and disease. Providing better food for the body only makes sense. Organic food crop percentages are growing on a yearly basis at a consistent rate.

Organic Food Benefits

Ingesting organic foods is better for the body in many cases. Organic milk contains more anti-oxidants than its counterpart. Organic cows that graze on pasture, produce higher quality milk. Tomatoes that are organically grown also have an increased amount of anti-oxidants that are healthier for the body and the heart. Increased nutritional value of organic foods is definitely a plus.

Improved Taste

Many organic foods have improved taste as well as esthetic beauty. Fruits and vegetables taste sweeter. Organic milk products taste richer when consumed and cheese has richer flavor. Improved taste is a wonderful luxury for a family.

Minimized Pollution

When crops are grown under organic conditions pollution is minimized. Synthetically based chemical pesticides and fertilizers are eliminated from the process, therefore decreasing soil and air pollution.

Healthier Animals

When animals are used in an organic environment they are happier and healthier animals. Animals used in the non-organic process of food productions may be caged and confined to torturous conditions. Animal welfare is an important part of our world and without animals we would not have milk or meat.

Truly Organic

Looking for truly organic foods can be difficult at times. Labels that say "all natural" or "naturally grown" may not be truly organically grown food. Look for labels that say "Certified Organic" to be sure of authentic organic food products. Foods may also display the words "100% Organic." True organic foods are monitored to ensure they are truly organic within the industry as well as strict guidelines concerning production processes.

USDA Organic Symbol

Products that carry the USDA Organic Symbol are foods which are at least 95% grown organically. Foods carrying this seal must undergo strict guidelines of approval.

Peace of Mind

Peace of mind is a huge benefit when eating organic foods. Individuals who are concerned about the foods they are putting into their bodies can take action to choose healthier organic foods. When it comes to feeding the next generation we can also feel better about the choices we have made for them. Allergen sensitivity may also be reduced.

Consuming organic foods could make a difference in the health of our children when they are older as well as our families. Why not make a difference in their lives as well as yours?
