Saving the Environment: Everyone's Responsibility

The environment has been abused throughout the years by mankind. Due to our negligence, apathy, and disobedience to environment-friendly actions promoted by environmental groups, we have ourselves to blame for the dirty and polluted environment that we live in. This has a greater impact on us than what many of us may realize, especially on the health aspect. For this reason, it is of utmost important that all of us do something to help make the world a cleaner and more environment-friendly place to live in.

Most of us go to work driving our cars. This routine has many adverse effects not just on the environment but also to our health. For instance, driving everyday can cause your car to inefficiently use fuel since your car consumes liters of fuel throughout your working days and it can only serve yourself. Another thing that needs to be pointed out is that cars emit smoke which can pollute the air. The more individual cars used by people who go to work, the more polluted the air we breathe become. This can have a negative effect on our health. Therefore, instead of driving your car everyday to work, you might consider commuting. You can help save the environment by minimizing the number of individual cars which belch smoke that pollutes the air and you also contribute to helping make cars efficiently use its fuel. Commuting means there are more people that are being served by public transportations compared to individual cars serving only a person or two hence, for the same amount of fuel, more people reach their destination if people commute.

Improper and inefficient waste management can also make our environment dirtier and less eco-friendly than it already is. You can do your part to improve this by practicing proper waste management that involves proper waste segregation and disposal. Recyclable materials can be reused. Trash such as styro foams and plastic bags as well as junk food foil packs take a long time to decompose and if they are not disposed of properly, they can result in a huge pile of rubble as they accumulate through time. Help make a difference now by making it a habit to segregate your trash. Put three trash bins and mark them with BIODEGRADABLE, NON-BIODEGRADABLE, and RECYCLABLE. Dispose of your trash into the corresponding marked trash bin. Doing so can help you save the environment.

Another simple yet effective way to help save the environment is to invite your friends to do tree-planting activities and help make the air we breathe cleaner and fresher. This is not only a fun activity you can do on your spare time but it also helps make the environment have a more relaxing ambience with fresher air.

The earth we live in is ours to protect. We should all do our part to ensure that our environment stays clean and eco-friendly not just for us but for the future generations to come.
