Have you ever wondered if your child will become one of the world's next leaders? Well, what about helping him to become the next best Green Leader? Keeping our earth and saving the environment is a very important task ahead of the next generation.
The next generation must be equipped to handle the challenges ahead. If the adults do not take responsibility, then where will this leave our kids? Will they be able to make good decisions when facing crisis in the future?
Communication SkillsCommunication skills are important in life especially in leadership. If communication is lacking then there will be consistent trials and tribulations. As children gain skills in communication they will be confident in promoting green living principles as well as other areas of importance. Communication skills involve learning to speak effectively as well as actively listening.
Leadership DevelopmentTeaching students leadership development skills is essential to success. Leadership skills go hand in hand with helping them be leaders in green living skills. When children learn leadership skills at an early age, it becomes easier for them to continue on. Just as learning a second language in the early years that is used consistently over time becomes second nature, so does teaching kids about being a leader in green living principles.
Community InvolvementCommunity involvement provides a wide range of experience in leadership skills. Various youth organizations are available that teach not only some green living skills but also leadership principles. Such organizations include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H. Boy Scouts teach the Leave No Trace principle. Leave No Trace involves leaving an area better than you found it as well as to respect nature. Girl Scouts teach to use resources wisely and in many cases other green living principles. 4-H is based on learning leadership skills as well as learning different things; many apply to eco-friendly principles.
Service ProjectsService Projects are also a part of community involvement. Service projects provide an avenue of action for kids. Leaders guide them in the decision making process to make a difference in their world. Guiding children allows them to take more "ownership" in the project at hand. They will come to "own" the service and take more action in the participation of the green living project.
Team WorkLearning to work on a team is equally important. The world is built around teamwork in some form or fashion. Work places involve teams as well as other avenues of life. Leadership involves many relationships including "teams."
Life Long ProcessLearning leadership skills including green living skills is a life long process. It can become a part of daily life in thinking and action. Green living can become second nature to a child whose parents live and breathe it on a daily basis. How about helping your child become one of the world's next Green Leaders?
