Great Green Idea: Green Jobs: Wind Jobs

Wind Jobs

Wind Jobs

Wind turbines are being built at record pace in the southwest and western part of the United States. Wind careers are growing and jobs should be growing as well.

Wind turbines are large finely engineered machines that harness the wind and create electricity which is then distributed to houses and power plants.

Wind jobs are crucial in the creation of a clean energy future. Because the wind is a natural and renewable resource, the energy that is created is considered renewable energy. To create these large machines many different people with many different educational backgrounds are needed.

Mechanical engineers create the technology and ensure that the turbines are working correctly, sales people are needed to sell the machines; machinists are used to build the turbines, etc.

Similar to solar, wind can have an immediate impact on the economy and can create an entirely new industry that will employ thousands. The more R and D that is done, the more this industry will grow. Many investors are putting money into buying and selling as well as employing this technology. For example T. Boone Pickens has been working to promote the wind industry and spread the use of wind farms.
